We never know what the future holds, only that Jesus holds our future. Many of us have lost loved ones recently; some suddenly and some were aware of what was coming- not that we are ever really prepared to say goodbye.

Whether related to the pandemic, or other causes, we have all felt the impact of death in recent times. It’s a cruel thing, God never created man to die, death was only a byproduct of our sinful ways. While we were trapped in a cycle of fear and uncertainty Jesus came in to rectify mans’ eternity with His Father.

In the meantime, death still happens while we wait for the coming of the Lord and the glorious day we trade temporary for eternal.

This is more than anything a reminder for us to cherish the relationships we have now, the people we have in our life right now because we have no promise of tomorrow. In my own life I recently lost a neighbor, and I had no chance to say good bye to them, or pray for them- I felt so robbed. This is why it’s so important that we tell people today that we love them, because we may not have another chance.

I’m reminded of when Jesus spoke to Judas and told him that they would have the poor among them forever, and that Jesus would only with them for a moment. He knew in that moment that he wouldn’t be with his friends long before the cross. We often do not have the luxury of knowing when our last opportunity to invest time with someone we love will be, or to simply tell them how we feel about them. Sometimes we can lulled into a false sense of security that we’ll have plenty of time to do those things. The truth is relationships and loving people are what matters, so let’s not put off til tomorrow who we can love today.
